2013 Fish Winnipeg

Due to higher than anticipated levels on the Red and Assiniboine rivers, Fish Winnipeg hit the road and headed to Crowduck Lake for a day of fishing. Once the 14 boats were loaded, everyone was off to the races to reel in their catch.

From the smiles on eveyrones faces at the end of the day, it was another successful event. Over 175 Walleye, Northern Pike, and Smallmouth Bass were caught showcasing the talent of all involved. After a bus ride back to the Forks in the heart of Winnipeg, participants enjoyed a catered dinner and the Awards were announced.

After the results were tallied, followed by a hush of silence and expectation, Priority Restoration (team comprised of Karen and Glen Smith) were crowned the 2013 Fish Winnipeg Champions with a catch of 51 fish. A big congratultions also goes out to Jake who fished with the gents from Swancoat investments who landed the biggest fish while Amber (last name with held of course) received the Conservation Award for helping conserve the resource for others ;).

Fish Winnipeg would like to extend a big thank you to all of our corporates sponsors, volunteers, guides, companies who donatored prizes and bait, and to those who joined us at Crowduck Lake. YOu are the reason why this program is successful and continues to provide quality angling opportunties for our youth.

2013 Volunteer Award Recipient

On April 24, 2013, the Fish Winnipeg program was acknowledged by receiving the 2013 Volunteer Service Award for its dedication to providing angling opportunities for Winnipeg's youth. On behalf of the committee, co-chairs John Toone and Don Lamont accepted the award from Mayor Sam Katz. In attendance were other committee members Katherine Ward, Stephen Yuffe and Rob Cann. They were also joined by Rick Koss who has been a long-time supporter of the program.

Over the last 16 years, the program would not have been possible without the generous donation of time by so many volunteers who have supported this program. Over 6,000 children have participated in the program and in excess of $350,000 has gone back into getting kids out fishing. The committee would like to thank all the volunteers that have made this program such a success!
